Description

The Department of Education and Cultural Action of the Adolfo Suárez y la Transición museum has developed a very comprehensive project with a great educational interest, taking advantage of two very special features that occur in the town of Cebreros: be the place where Adolfo Suárez was born and host one of the three deep space antennas that the European Space Agency has worldwide. In addition, the ESA (European Space Agency) has recently open the Universe Room, the first visitors center that they launch in Europe. The purpose of this place is to showcase the work of the ESA and the Cebreros station, contributing to a better understanding of their important work in space technology research and development, as well as to enhancing the interest of schoolchildren in science in general and astronomy in particular. Thanks to these two particularities we have launched ESMAST in collaboration with the European Space Agency.  ESMAST is a specific educational program, that cover in a single day two areas of knowledge: history and science, and is adapted to each curriculum level between the ages of 3 and 12.

During this activity the following workshops and visits will be carried out:

Workshop of Votings

With the development of this activity children will understand how the electoral process develops and how it serves to the consolidation of the democratic values of Spanish Constitution. For the first time, students will exercise the right to vote with authentic ballots box and following the whole process.

It includes the creation of their own DNI (National Identity Document) equal to the one of 1977, that will contain their fingerprint and the information that the document had then. The aim of this is to enabling students to identify themselves in the electoral process as their grandparents did more than 40 years ago

We visit the universe room

Workshop The earth movements.

We will address the knowledge of the earth’s life, days of the week and seasons through play.

With 0-6 yers old childs we will work the numerical series from 1 to 8 with the names of the planets of the solar system through a song and the spherical form with the presentation of the moon as a natural satellite.

With 6-12 years old childs we will go deeper into the planets of the Solar System. We undertake the activity of ESA and the Deep Space Antenna of Cebreros through one of the most important missions, the Rosetta Mission, narrated as a child story. We will do everything from the astronaut job point of view, with the theatricalisation of it by the educators of the activity.

We visit the DSA 2 Antenna

Visiting the ESA deep space tracking station in Cebreros, children will understand very well that DSA 2 is a giant ear, able to listen and speak to a spacecraft that is millions of kilometers away to help it on his way, receiving all the scientific information that the satellite sends  and supporting it in the execution of actions and commands.

Interested and very attentive, they will receive the explanations of this complex civil engineering infrastructure. If also during the visit they have the chance to observe the antenna moving ahead of them, the euphoria will dominates the rest of the excursion.

Every person, young or senior, that takes part of this activity enjoy it. Furthermore, with the objective of understand the communication process between the antenna and the aircrafts we play a game in which we simulate the solar system with its eight planets, the sun, the antenna of Cebreros and satellites in space. Everything starts moving and the antenna must communicate with the satellite. Thanks to this dynamic practice the students perceive how complex and difficult it turns out that the DSA2 establish communication with the spacecraft and guide it through the space.

Once the visit to the facilities is over you can stay and have lunch in the park next to the museum. A good place to play before going back to school.
